Two episodes of Eocene mafic magmatism in the southern Lhasa terrane imply an eastward propagation of slab breakoff

چکیده
• The gabbro was originated from metasomatized lithospheric mantle. hornblende formed mixing of asthenosphere and slab breakoff propagated eastward under the Lhasa terrane in Paleocene-Eocene. Past geodynamic events can be reconstructed using spatial temporal patterns geochemical variability igneous rocks. Here we apply this principle to define timing geometry Neo-Tethyan after India-Asia collision. Two episodes mafic magmatism (?53 Ma ? 48 Ma) are preserved Quxu area southern (SL). We present their whole-rock geochemistry, zircon U-Pb ages, situ Hf isotope ratios. early exhibits typical arc basalt characteristics, including enrichment large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs), depletion high-field strength (HFSEs), radiogenic Nd isotopes, implying that they were by partial melting In comparison gabbro, late (?48 contains higher contents HFSEs (e.g., Nb, Zr) relatively less suggesting interaction between enriched sub-continental mantle asthenospheric It is likely upwelling reached central SL around 50 tore off at time. distribution rocks across whole show transition hence, presumably, tearing slab, along collision zone throughout Paleocene-Eocene

Oceanic mafic magmatism in the Siletz terrane, NW North America: Fragments of an Eocene oceanic plateau?
Article history: Received 11 October 2016 Accepted 5 January 2017 Available online 14 January 2017 The Siletz terrane, a predominantly mafic accreted oceanic terrane, is located in the Cascadia forearc region of Oregon, Washington and Vancouver Island. The terrane represents a late Palaeocene–Eocene large igneous province that consists of pillow lavas, massive flows and intrusive sheets. Previo...
متن کاملSignificant seismic anisotropy beneath the southern Lhasa Terrane, Tibetan Plateau
[1] Shear wave splitting measurements using teleseismic PKS, SKKS, and SKS phases recorded by station LSA on the southern part of the Lhasa Terrane of the Tibetan Plateau reveal significant azimuthal anisotropy with a splitting time of up to 1.5 s, a conclusion that is contradictory to previous studies which suggested isotropy or weak anisotropy. In addition, systematic variations of the splitt...
متن کاملSlab breakoff A model for syncollisional magmatism and tectonics in the Alps
Slab breakoff is the buoyancy-driven detachment of subducted oceanic lithosphere from the light continental lithosphere that follows it during continental collision. In a recent paper Davies and von Blanckenburg [1994] have assessed the physical conditions leading to breakoff by quantitative thermomechanical modeling and have predicted various consequences in the evolution of mountain belts. Br...
